UMass Dartmouth Races Against WestConn and Westfield State

DANBURY, Conn. – Freshman Anya Wallace (Westborough, Mass.) captured a pair of victories as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team cometed in a  tri-match with WestConn and Westfield State University Saturday afternoon inside the William O'Neill Athletic & Convocation Center.

Westfield State posted a 2-0 record on the afternoon, defeating WestConn 173-78 and UMass Dartmouth 171-79. WestConn won its meet against the Corsairs, 115-87.

Wallace was the first swimmer to touch the wall in two freestyle events. She captured the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:17.91 and posted a winning time of 6:05.79 in the 500-yard freestyle. Wallace also placed third in the 50-yard backstroke.

Freshman Piper Dienst (Winchendon, Mass.) turned in a pair of second-place performances for the Corsairs. She was the runner-up in the 50-yard backstroke (32.78) and 200-yard freestyle (2:23.16).

Sophomore Rachel Kerrigan (Wallingford, Conn.) registered a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 2:30.58. She was also fourth in the 100-yard individual medley.

Sophomore Melia Bouramia (Fall River, Mass.) was the third swimmer to touch the wall in the 50-yard freestyle (29.43) and 100-yard freestyle (1:07.70).

The UMass Dartmouth 400-yard freestyle relay team dropped 11 seconds off its previous best time to close out the meet. The quartet of Wallace, Bouramia, Kerrigan, and Dienst registered a third-place performance with a season-low time of 4:13.87.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action on Sunday, February 20, when the Corsairs compete at the Little East Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Mass.
