DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team is looking to return to the Little East Conference (LEC) Tournament after qualifying a season ago. Head Coach
Linee Mello-Frost enters her eighth season leading the team and game one of the season is at Dean College on Sept. 1 at 4 p.m.
UMass Dartmouth finished 7-13 and 6-6 last year to advance to the postseason. LEC victories came against Castleton (4-1), Plymouth State (3-2 2OT), Framingham State (3-2), Southern Maine (2-1 2OT), Bridgewater State (1-0Â OT) and Fitchburg State (2-1).
Returning to the roster are two graduate students, one senior, three juniors and three sophomores. Grad student
Kylie Dias finished with seven goals and four assists for 18 points in 2021. Senior
Mya Amaral posted four goals and three assists for 11 points, while sophomore
Jenna Carvalho scored three times and had one assist for seven points. Back as well on offense is grad student
Lydia Stormwind, juniors
Colleen Murphy and
Maggie Doherty, and sophomore
Harley Hodge. Junior
Maggie McCafferty will see action on defense, while sophomore
Hannah Trombly will be in goal after earning a .697 save percentage last season.
The freshman class of
Alexandra Medeiros,
Abigail Savage-Shanaha and
Amanda Semler will add depth to the roster.
UMass Dartmouth starts its season with four-straight road games at Dean College (Sept. 1), Simmons (Sept. 3), Roger Williams (Sept. 6) and Salve Regina (Sept. 8). The home and LEC debut is against Keene State (Sept. 10).
