CASTLETON, Vt. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team suffered a 9-0 defeat Saturday night at Castleton in the Little East Conference (LEC) opener.
The Corsairs drop to 2-2 and 0-1 in the LEC, while the Spartans improve to 3-3 and 2-0 in the conference.
Junior Emily Harris scored the first two goals for Castleton at the 4:27 and 15:58 marks. Her first was assisted by freshman Jess Smithson. Senior Tessa Rubocki went unnasisted for the next two, freshman Chance Jaquin then sent one home with 26:06 on the clock.
Harris got her hat trick from Smithson again, and senior Kaitlin Bardellini scored from sophomore Amelia Wilson to make it 7-0 at the half.
Wilson and Rubocki found the back of the cage in the second half to close out the game.
UMass Dartmouth is back at it on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Clark at Cressy Field.
