Evenly-Matched Contest Ends in Scoreless Draw

Joey Paiva finished with four shots on goal

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - In the mystery match against Berkeley College of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team came away with a scoreless draw.

It was an evenly matched game as the Corsairs (0-4-3) and the Knights (7-0-1) each tallied 16 shots with six on goal. UMass Dartmouth led the corner kick battle, 5-3.

Junior Paiva had a handful of opportunities to score with six shots and four on goal, while graduate student Denser Martinez and freshman Cameron Aguiar each had one shot on goal. Freshman Cole Travers made his first-career start in goal and stopped two shots, while junior Jack Waterhouse played the second half and turned away four shots.

Paiva's first shot on goal came in the 19th minute. It was the first shot for either team. Paiva had one more shot saved in the 22nd minute and Martinez saw his shot on goal turned away in the 43rd minute.

Paiva and Aguiar had shots that were saved early in the second half to keep the game scoreless. It was then a defensive battle from until the final whistle.
