Joey Paiva netted his first two goals of the season Wednesday afternoon in the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's 4-2 setback at Rhode Island College.
The teams were evenly matched in shots taken, as the Corsairs (0-5-3, 0-2 LEC) finished with 15 and seven on goal, while the Anchormen (2-4-1, 1-1-1 LEC) tallied 16 shots with seven on goal. UMass Dartmouth led in corner kicks with seven compared to three for RIC.
Scoring for the Anchormen were senior Roman Davis, sophomore Jesus Guarcas, senior Jonathan Olivera and freshman Ryan Delessio.
Rhode Island College scored two quick goals to start things off. The first was at the 15th minute when Davis scored from sophomore Larry Garcia and Olivera. The second goal came three seconds later when Guarcas scored from sophomore Anthony Recinos to make it a 2-0 game.
Paiva sent home his first goal of the season off an assist from sophomore
Lucas Passaro in the 21st minute to cut the deficit in half. It took eight minutes for Olivera to extend the lead to 3-1 off assists from senior Brandon Ramos and sophomore Ryan Moniz.
It only took four minutes into the second half for Paiva to make it a 3-2 match. The Anchormen finished it off in the 52nd minute with a goal from Delessio.
UMass Dartmouth is home against Southern Maine on Saturday at 12 p.m.
