DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Rhode Island College scored two, second-half, goals to
hand the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team a 2-1 loss Wednesday night at Cressy Field.
Freshman
Jenny Kinnear scored the lone goal for the Corsairs (3-5-0, 1-1-0 LEC), while senior Audra Gracia and sophomore Tayla Salome found the back of the net for the Anchorwomen (2-5-1, 1-2 LEC).
UMass Dartmouth held a 19-9 lead in shots and 14-7 on goal, the Corsairs also had seven corner kicks to zero for RIC.
The Corsairs dominated the first half. It took until their sixth shot of the night to break the scoreless drought. Graduate student Kait Berneir sent a crossing pass to Kinnear, who snuck it past the keeper to make it a 1-0 advantage in the 23rd minute. That score would remain until halftime.
Rhode Island College made the most of their limited opportunities in the second half to steal the win. A long pass from freshman Tayshia Cary set up Gracia for the equalizer in the 46th minute.
UMass Dartmouth had a handful of chances to take back the lead, but the RIC goalkeeper was there to make the stop each time. The Anchorwomen scored the game winner in the 69th minute off the foot of Salome.
The Corsairs are at Southern Maine on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
