BOSTON, Mass. -Â Junior
Maggie Doherty sent home her first-career goal to even the score at one in the first quarter, but Simmons scored the three unanswered, to hand the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey a 4-1 loss Saturday morning in Boston.
Doherty went unassisted for the Corsairs (1-1). Scoring for the Sharks (2-0) were senior Haley Dover, sophomores Hannah Groves and Anna Tedeschi, and senior Hunter Langley. UMass Dartmouth finished the game with three penalty corners, while sophomore goalie
Hannah Trombly made a pair of saves.
After Simmons' Dover took advantage of a penalty corner to make it 1-0 at the 4:48 mark, Doherty knotted the game at one with 9:57 on the clock, and that score would remain until the second quarter.
The Sharks began the second with a goal from Groves 35 second into the period and opened the flood gates. Tedeschi then gave the Sharks an insurance goal to increase their lead to 3-1 with 23:09 on the clock.
Just before the end of the first half, the Sharks scored their fourth and final goal of the game. Sophomore Emilia Elko made a pass towards the cage that was tipped into the goal by Langley to finish it off.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Roger Williams next for a 4 p.m. game on Tuesday.
