Corsairs Complete Comeback at Lasell, 3-2

UMass Dartmouth trailed 2-1 in the second half

NEWTON, Mass. - With their backs against the wall in the second half, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team found a way to pull through and score two late goals to defeat Lasell, 3-2, Wednesday night in the teams' first road game.

It was an evenly matched contest as the Corsairs, who are off to their first 2-0 start since 2018, tallied 16 shots with nine on goal, while the Lasers 0-4, finished with 17 shots and five on net. Lasell also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Scoring for UMass Dartmouth were grad student Kait Bernier, sophomore Madison Durkin and freshman Kaitlyn Duarte. Finding the back of the net both times for Lasell was sophomore Priscila Martinelli.

After a back and forth 30 minutes, the Lasers struck first in the 36th minute when Martinelli received a pass from Senior Bobbi O'Guin and fired it home to make it a 1-0 advantage for the home team. It only took the Corsairs a minute into the second half when grad student Kait Bernier evened the score off an assist from freshman Ashlyn Aguiar.

The Lasers responded two minutes later when Sophomore Michelina D'Agostino threaded a perfect pass to Martinelli, who then fired it into the back of the net to make it a 2-1 lead.

Ten minutes later, UMass Dartmouth knotted the game at two in the 58th minute when freshman Veronica Bock found Durkin, who was able to blast the ball into the net.

The Corsairs took the lead for good in the 68th minute when freshman Jordana Golove set up freshman Kaitlyn Duarte for the game winner to make it a 3-2 ballgame.

Senior goalkeeper Kat Hubbard earned her second win of the season with three saves.

UMass Dartmouth will travel to Curry College on Saturday for an 11a.m. kickoff.
