Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

The Corsairs Fall Short to #15 Plymouth State

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – UMass Dartmouth men's ice hockey team (4-9-2, 2-3-1 MASCAC) competed with #15 Plymouth State (12-3-1, 9-0-0 MASCAC) to the very end. The two teams battled in a thriller of a MASCAC contest that resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Panthers.

Senior captain Jake Maynard scored the one and only goal for the Corsairs. Maynard's score came four minutes into the contest on a power play and was assisted by fellow senior Michael Perrone and freshman Matthew Zdanowicz.

UMD's 1-0 lead was held until the 7:02 mark in the first period, when Plymouth State's sophomore Connor Tait answered off a pass from freshman Will Redick. With the score evened at one, it was the Panthers who were able to take the lead with just 30 seconds left in the first period. The eventual game winner came from freshman Payton Schaly. Schaly's wrist-shot to the upper corner of the net was assisted by sophomore Cameron Patton.

The second and third periods were scoreless for the two MASCAC teams. The contest began to get chippier as the one-score bout continued. There were nine penalties charged to either team, four of which went in favor of the Corsairs. Neither team, however, capitalized on their power play opportunities, and the game concluded as it was after the first period, 2-1 Plymouth State.

UMassD's defense was on display in the loss, blocking 22 shots from the Panthers. PSU won the faceoff battle, 48-38. Plymouth State also out-shot the Corsairs 51-41.

Both the goaltenders showed out in this matchup, UMass Dartmouth senior Daniel Davidson stopped 49 shots, and Plymouth State's senior goalkeeper Brendahn Brawley stopped 40.

UMass Dartmouth travels to Fitchburg State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
