DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball team opened the new year with a dominant, 76-51 victory over Keene State Wednesday afternoon.

The Corsairs' overall record advances to .500 at 6-6, and their conference record improves to 2-1. The Owls drop to 3-7 and 1-3 in the Little East.
Nine different Corsairs contributed to the scoring on Wednesday. Grad student
Jordan Moretti led the way for UMass Dartmouth with 19 points, four assists and four steals. Junior
Kaylin Zalewski continued her hot streak with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Junior
Teja Andrews pitched in 10 points of her own, and grad student
Caroline Wilson posted a near double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. Â

Keene State saw two players put up double-digit points, with 10 points coming from sophomore Aryanna Murray and freshman Valerie Luizzi.

To start the contest, Luizzi scored all ten of her points for Keene State, lifting them to an early 10-3 lead over UMass Dartmouth. The Corsairs fired back, though, thanks to a series of threes from Zalewski, Moretti. and grad student Jessica Carrol. UMassD finished out the first quarter with a 17-16 lead. UMD out-shot KSC by a wide margin throughout the game, converting on 51.7% of their field goals and 33.3% of their three point attempts, while the Owls struggled, shooting 35.1% from the field and just 17.4% from beyond the arc.Â

The Corsairs were rolling in the second quarter, extending their lead to 18 points following a 19-1 run. UMass Dartmouth cruised into halftime with a 44-24 lead.Â

UMass Dartmouth was able to hold onto their lead throughout the second half. With the comfortable lead, players such as junior
Jaelyn Lavigne and grad student
Julia Quinn were able to contribute off the bench. A balanced attack from the Corsairs kept them comfortably in front as they cruised to a 76-51 victory at the final buzzer.Â
UMD returns to action on Saturday when they host Southern Maine in another Little East Conference battle. Tip off will be at 1 PM in the Tripp Center.Â
