Veronica Bock, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team came away from VTSU Castleton with a 2-2 draw. It marks their fifth tie of the season for the Corsairs, who find themselves with a record of 2-6-5 overall and sit at 0-3-3 in Little East Conference play. The Spartans find themselves at 3-10-1 with a 0-5-1 record against conference opponents.
Two minutes into the second half, Castleton's senior Brytney Moore connected with her classmate Jordan Mattison to score the second goal of the game for the Spartans and take a 2-0 lead through 47 minutes. 55 minutes into the contest, the Corsairs got on the scoreboard when Nguyen's strike found the back of the net. UMass Dartmouth ramped up the aggression trailing one with over 30 minutes remaining. In the 61
st minute, the Corsairs saw their opportunity to even it up, when VTSU Castleton fouled the Corsairs in the attacking box, setting up a UMD penalty kick. Bock took the PK opportunity for the Corsairs, and made the most of it, driving it past the keeper's left side.
UMass Dartmouth's defense, along with freshman goalkeeper
Grace Conti, held strong in the second half, not allowing a goal in the final 42 minutes of play and giving the team a chance to rally back. Conti played all 90 minutes and made two stops in goal.
The Corsairs held a large shot advantage over the Spartans, out-shooting them 22-13, with 11 shots on goal to VTSU Castleton's four. Castleton's sophomore goalkeeper Emma Ezzo played a big part in this game, making nine saves.
The UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team returns home to host the Bears from Bridgewater State on Tuesday, October 17. The 7:00PM game will be played under the lights on Cressy Field.
