DARTMOUTH, Mass. – After slipping to a 2-0 deficit, a late second-half score from fifth year senior Mya Parker brought the Corsairs within striking distance, but the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team fell short, 2-1 to Bridgewater State on Tuesday. The Corsairs slide to 2-7-5 for the season, while the Bears improve to 8-5.
Bridgewater State's first score of the game came in the 11th minute of the first half. BSU senior Audra McDuffie scored off a ricocheted shot from her sophomore teammate, Skylar Conrad, who tallied two assists on the night.
With UMass Dartmouth still scoreless, the Bears were able to extend their lead 11 minutes into the second half, when sophomore Olivia Robarge rocketed one past the keeper from just outside the box. Robarge was assisted by Conrad and senior Sydney Dewhurst.
Now trailing by two goals, the Corsairs ramped up their offensive efforts in the remaining time. In the 77th minute of the contest, UMD junior Bella Rita led Parker with a long pass out ahead, leading to Parker's first goal of the season. Parker found the gap between the keeper and the post on the right side of the net to bring the Corsairs within one.
UMass Dartmouth was unable to even it up in the closing minutes, as Bridgewater State exits with the 2-1 victory over the Corsairs.
UMass Dartmouth's saw 13 shots as a team with five on-target, including four attempts from junior Kaitlyn Nguyen and two from Parker. The Bears shot slightly lower volume than the Corsairs, but at a higher efficiency, attempting 12 shots with eight on-target and two scores.
UMD's freshman goalkeeper Grace Conti played the full 90 minutes and made six stops. BSU sophomore keeper Logan Levesque handled the full 90 and made four saves.
The UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 21, for their senior day! The Corsairs will celebrate their seniors prior to the 12pm kickoff with Eastern Connecticut.
