Field Hockey Shoulders Tough Loss at Plymouth State

Panthers post 4-0 victory over Corsairs in LEC action

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A strong third quarter effort paced Plymouth State past UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon at Panther Field. The victory moves the Panthers to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the LEC, while the Corsairs slip to 3-12 with a 1-4 conference mark.

Plymouth State opened the game's scoring quickly as Savannah Connor buried a feed from Taylor Healey at the 3:47 mark of the first quarter. Healey had a monster third quarter of play, assisting on a goal by Athena Comeau at the 32:25 mark for a 2-0 lead, before scoring two straight goals to give the homestanding Panthers the 4-0 win.

The Corsairs nearly tied things up in the second quarter as rookie Sam King fired in a shot that was saved by Panthers keeper Kayla Antonucci. The visitors earned a penalty corner, but the ensuing shot from senior captain Maggie Doherty was blocked in front. Seconds later, the Corsairs earned another penalty corner, but a shot from junior Jenna Carvalho was once again saved by Antonucci.

In the third quarter, Carvalho had another solid attempt, but her shot clanged off the post and out soon after a shot from rookie Brooke Lydon was blocked.

The Panthers saw Antonucci record two saves to pick up the victory, while her counterpart, Hannah Trombly made nine stops for the Corsairs.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Worcester for a 7pm non-conference tilt against Clark University.
