Field Hockey Suffers Non-Conference Loss to Rams

Corsairs fall 3-0 to Framingham State

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Behind a strong two-goal quarter, the Framingham State field hockey team posted a 3-0 win over UMass Dartmouth in non-conference action on Wednesday evening. The Rams move to 5-5 overall, while the Corsairs slip to 3-8 on the season.

UMass Dartmouth opened the contest with a strong effort, throwing a number of shots in the circle to get things going. A pair of shots by sophomore midfielder Lillian Bento were blocked, while the Corsairs got back-to-back penalty corners but were unable to convert.

The Rams saw Isabella Kondi fire in a shot just before the end of the opening quarter that was saved by Corsairs keeper Hannah Trombly. That momentum carried into the second quarter as Kondi fed the ball across the goal mouth to a wide-open Kaylee Beck at the left corner for the 1-0 lead at 23:48.

FSU continued to press, sending three shots in on Trombly, while rookie defender Sophia Bouffard made a great defensive save. But the Rams capitalized at 27:15 as Emma Bailey buried a feed from Kondi - earning her second helper of the night - to go up 2-0.

It remained a 2-0 margin until the 57:42 mark as Ashley Malmquist buried a Kondi rebound through a scrum in front of the Corsairs goal.

Rams goalie Kaitlyn Tello recorded three saves in goal for the victory, while Trombly made six stops for the Corsairs. Overall, the Rams owned a 13-8 shot advantage in the contest, holding a narrow 6-4 edge in penalty corners.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Roger Williams at 7pm on Cressy Field.
