DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team was bested, 6-0, by Roger Williams University on Saturday. The Corsairs start their year 0-2 while the Hawks secure their first win of the season to advance to 1-0-1.
Roger Williams opened up the contest attacking the Corsairs' net early. Seven minutes into the contest, Hawks' sophomore Liam Blaisdell scored the game's first goal on a breakaway off Andre Caceres's assist. Not long after, senior CJ Sousa scored in a similar fashion, this time with the feed coming from a sliding Dylan Thomas (Fr). Just 12 minutes into the contest, the Hawks found themselves leading 2-0 over the Corsairs.
The Roger Williams offense did not seem to slow down from that point on, scoring two more goals before halftime. UMass Dartmouth trailed 4-0 going into the intermission.
Coming out of the break, the Hawks did not slow down. They added two more goals before reaching the end of regulation with Roger Williams on top, 6-0 over UMD.
UMass Dartmouth's attack was led by junior
Justin Petrillo, who took two on-target shot attempts. Senior
Joey Paiva had an opportunity to put one in the net in the 64
th minute, but it was barely blocked by a RWU defender.
UMass Dartmouth men's soccer returns to the pitch on Wednesday, when they will host Salve Regina on Cressy Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00PM.
