Field Hockey Falls in LEC Action to Keene State

Owls post shutout over Corsairs in conference matchup

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Powered by a pair of goals from Meghan Daileanes and Graze Bazin, the Keene State College field hockey team defeated UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference play Friday on Cressy Field. The Owls improve to 7-2 overall and are now 1-0 in the LEC, while the Corsairs move to 2-6 and 0-2 in conference action.

The Owls got things going quickly in the opening quarter as Irini Stefanakos scored off a feed from Bazin just 34 seconds into the first. On a late corner, it was Daileanes that made it a 2-0 margin with no time to end the first quarter, scoring off a feed from Elizabeth Gonyea.

Daileanes then drove home a feed by Molly Murray, putting the visitors up by a 3-0 margin in the second. Stefanakos earned an assist, feeding the ball to Hannah Wood before half for a 4-0 Owls lead.

Bazin went on to add a goal in the third and fourth quarter to end the scoring.

For the Corsairs, rookie Sophia Bouffard - the Division III national leader in defensive saves, along with senior captain Maggie McCafferty both recorded a defensive stop in the contest. Junior goalkeeper Hannah Trombly shouldered the loss, notching a season-high 14 saves against Keene State.

The Corsairs return to action on Tuesday, hosting Lasell University at 7pm on Cressy Field.
