DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team's meeting with UMass Boston ended in a 1-1 draw. It marks their third tie of the season for the Corsairs, who find themselves with a record of 2-3-3 and rest at 0-1-1 in LEC play. The Beacons find themselves at 3-3-3 with a 1-0-1 record against conference opponents.
After a scoreless opening 37 minutes, the Corsairs were on the attack first when they rattled off three good shot attempts in a row. The three shots came from freshman
Amanda Thompson, sophomore
Veronica Bock and freshman
Haley Rutherford. UMB's junior goalkeeper Isabella O'Connell turned away all three shots, and the game went into the intermission still scoreless at 0-0.
In the 68
th minute, the Corsairs had another flurry of shot attempts, this time coming from Rutherford, junior
Jillian Swass, and senior
Anna Balkus. The Corsairs couldn't find the back of the net on those attempts, but during the 79
th minute, first year midfielder
Haley Rutherford was knocked down inside the box, setting up the penalty-kick opportunity for UMassD. Junior
Caroline McAuliffe took the opportunity, putting it past O'Connell and getting the Corsairs on the board first.
The Beacons answered quickly on the other end, however, as UMass Boston rookie Chloe Shapiro netted her first of the season not three minutes later to even the contest at 1-1, where the game remained through 90 minutes.
