PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Little East has announced its weekly award winners in men's indoor track & field and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete
Flordan Bazile was recognized for the second straight week. The freshman was named the Track Athlete and Track Rookie Athlete of the Week for his solid performances at the Tufts Jumbo Invitational last weekend.
At the Jumbo Invite, Bazile posted second overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.16. That mark was not only a New England D3 Qualifying mark, but also the ninth-best time in Division III this season. It is also the second-fastest time in NED3, ranks him second in the East Region and first in the Little East standings.
Â
Bazile also posted third overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.02. He won his initial heat with a time of 6.97 in the preliminaries. That time is currently 44th in DIII, seventh in New England, third in the East Region and tied for first in the conference.
Â
Additionally, Bazile's time in the 200-meter was the third best mark all-time at UMass Dartmouth, while his 60-meter effort was the second-best all-time for the Corsairs indoors.
Â
Last week, Bazile was named the Track Rookie Athlete of the Week after opening his first collegiate indoor season with second overall by just a fraction in the 55-meter dash at the USM Open II Meet. He posted a time of 6.56 to qualify for the New England Division III Championships.
Â
His performance also ranked 13th in New England in the 55-m dash, fifth in the East Region and third in the Little East after that weekend. His time also marked the third-fastest all-time at UMass Dartmouth.
Â
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday when both the men's and women's squads head back to Medford, Mass., for the Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invitational. That meet is slated to begin at 10am.
