Corsairs Cruise to 90-54 Win Over UMass Boston

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Powered by an elite defensive effort and hot shooting night from deep, the UMass Dartmouth men's basketball team cruised to a 90-54 win over UMass Boston in Little East action on Tuesday at the Tripp Athletic Center. The win marks the seventh straight for the Corsairs, moving them to 8-5 overall and 5-0 in the LEC. The Beacons are now 2-13 with a 1-5 mark in conference play.

The smoldering hot UMass Dartmouth men's basketball game began the contest exactly as that, jumping out to a 10-0 lead right away following a pair of threes from senior Isaac Percy and 5th year senior Jackson Zancan. The Corsairs continued to roll in the first half, extending their lead to 32-14 at the 8:25 mark after a three from senior Jayquan Leonard

UMassD poured it on as the opening half continued. After claiming a 20-point lead at the 5:27 mark, the Corsairs rattled off an 18-1 run to close out the half, punctuated by a Percy buzzer-beater three that put them ahead, 59-22, going into the half.

UMass Dartmouth saw their sophomore archers John Marcille and Nic Boyd catch fire in the second half. Boyd sank 5 of his 7 three-point attempts (71.4%), three of which came in the second half. All three of Marcille's three-pointers came during the second half. The Corsairs rolled on to a dominant, 90-54 win over the Beacons.

UMass Boston, paced throughout by junior Emanuel Zayas and sophomore Connor Walden, saw each of them score nine points. Zayas added four assists and five steals to his total. The UMass Dartmouth defense did not allow any player to accumulate 10 or more points.

UMass Dartmouth was paced by Boyd, who recorded a game-high 17 points on 6 for 10 from the floor and 5 for 7 from deep. UMD saw six players score in double-digits, including 13 points from sophomore Josh Lopes and 11 from Zancan. Two Corsairs posted double-doubles in Marcille with 12 points and 10 boards, alongside sophomore Ryan Flauto's 10 and 10. Senior Michael Eurquhart Jr. put up eight points and 10 rebounds along with three blocked shots and two steals on defense.

UMass Dartmouth led the way in several stat categories, including points off of turnovers (23-14), second-chance points (22-10), bench scoring (41-29), points inside the paint (38-26) and fast break points (21-7). The Corsairs shot 15 for 34 from three-point range (44.1%) in the win.
