Women's Soccer Tripped Up by Eastern Connecticut State, 4-0

DARMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team suffered a Little East Conference (LEC) road loss, 4-0, to Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday. The Corsairs dropped to a 2-5-0 league record with the loss against the Warriors who improved to 3-2-2 in conference play.
 
First year goalkeeper Emma Juelis produced two early saves for the Corsairs in the opening seven minutes of action. At the 8:49 mark, Eastern Connecticut took a quick a 1-0 lead in the game as Daria DiBaso found the back of the net off the helper from Olivia Davidson.
 
Senior Kaitlyn Nguyen responded for UMass Dartmouth by firing the first shot on frame to force a save from Warriors goalkeeper Alex Ignatowicz. Ten minutes later, respectively, Eastern Connecticut doubled their advantage as Lilly Simpson tallied a score at the 20:36 mark to put the home team up 2-0.
 
The Corsairs continued to battle, posting 2-of-4 shots on target by first year Ashlyn Rogers and junior Veronica Bock that Ignatowicz saved. Juelis also produced another stop in net for UMass Dartmouth but the Warriors headed into the break with their two-goal advantage.
 
UMass Dartmouth kicked off the second half by firing three shots highlighted by another strike on frame by Nguyen at the 52:02 mark. Eastern Connecticut regained attacking momentum notching six shot attempts in comparison to UMass Dartmouth with two featuring four saves by Juelis.
 
The Warriors cemented their win over the Corsairs after tacking on two late goals in the final 10 minutes of the game, respectively, to earn their third LEC victory of the year by a final score of 4-0.
 
Eastern Connecticut outshot UMass Dartmouth 20-13 in the game and held a 13-7 edge in shots on-goal. The Warriors also earned five corner kicks in the contest while the Corsairs had four corner kicks on the afternoon.
 
Bock led the team with her three shot attempts, all of which were on target. First year Lilly Jaeger, first year Phoebe Gesner, and Nguyen each recorded two shots apiece for the Corsairs. The Warriors saw four different goal-scorers on the day while Davidson ended the game with a goal and an assist.
 
Juelis shouldered the loss after making nine saves and allowing four goals in net after playing for the full 90 minutes. Ignatowicz earned the shutout in net for the Warriors after posting seven total saves.
 
UMass Dartmouth are back on the road for a non-conference tilt versus the Worcester State University Lancers on Tuesday, Oct. 19. The game is slated for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
