DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team were blanked by the University of Hartford, 8-0, on Wednesday night during a non-conference tilt from Cressy Field. The Corsairs fell to a 3-7-2 overall record while the Hawks improved to 6-3-2 with the victory.
The Hawks offense came out strong to start the game by firing nine shots in the opening 17 minutes of play, respectively. First year goalkeeper
Emma Juelis, making her second start in net for the Corsairs, posted a pair of saves to deny two shots by Imani Jenkins.
Hartford soon snagged a 2-0 lead midway through the half with Reese Sadler and Angela Chavez each notching a goal apiece. In the final minutes of the half, Kathleen Brush gave the visitors a 3-0 edge just before the break with her score at the 42:30 mark. Senior
Bella Rita had a late breakaway down the right flank and registered the first shot of the night for UMass Dartmouth that went wide and out of play.
The Hawks soon extended their lead to kickoff the second half with Jenkins and Kathleen Brush netting a goal each to put Hartford ahead 5-0. Sophomore goalkeeper
Grace Conti entered the game for the Corsairs producing three saves. At the 56:29, Lindsey Metcalfe slipped the ball into the right corner to make it 6-0.
Hartford sealed their win notching two more goals in the in the game to defeat UMass Dartmouth by a final score of 8-0. The Hawks outshot the Corsairs by a 30-3 margin with UMass Dartmouth earning two corner kicks while Hartford had none in the contest.
The Corsairs are on the road taking on Western Connecticut State on Saturday, Oct. 12. The Little East Conference matchup is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
