#23 Corsairs Cruise to 65-37 Victory at UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – Powered by a second-half scoring surge, where the Corsairs outscored UMass Boston 43-26 in the half, the UMass Dartmouth women's basketball team overwhelmed UMass Boston, 65-37, in Little East action on Wednesday. The win saw the #23 Corsairs move to 19-3 overall and 11-2 in the LEC. The Beacons drop to 4-17 with a 2-12 mark in conference play.
 
The Corsairs were paced by grad student Carly Whiteside, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds, along with two blocked shots and two steals on defense. The senior duo of Kaylin Zalewski and Teja Andrews each tallied 13 points. They also recorded four steals each and  combined for nine rebounds. As a team, the Corsairs recorded 17 total steals and caused 28 UMass Boston turnovers.

UMass Boston, paced throughout by Tatiannah Fevry, saw the sophomore guard score seven points while going 5 for 6 from the free throw line. No scorers reached double figures. The UMass Boston bench did outscore the Corsairs',  24-16.  

After a low-scoring first half, UMass Dartmouth entered the third quarter with a 22-11 lead. With the three-ball not falling in the first half, it was Whiteside that contributed to the lead with 10 first- half points.

After the Beacons began the third quarter on a 5-2 run, the Corsairs responded with a 16-3 run that lasted from the 7:45 mark of the third quarter until the 3:07 mark of the frame. The run featured five points each from Andrews and sophomore Melanie DeMeo, and extended the Corsairs' lead to 40-19 with three minutes left in the quarter. The Beacons answered with a 7-4 run, but went into the fourth quarter trailing UMD, 44-26.  

UMass Dartmouth continued their dominance through the final frame, opening the quarter with a 13-3 run that put them up, 57-29 with 4:04 remaining. The run featured nine points from Zalewski. The Corsairs cruised through the rest of the fourth, going on to claim their 11th conference victory of the season, completing the season sweep over UMass Boston with a 65-37 victory on the road.   
   
The Corsairs return to the Tripp Center on Saturday,  hosting Southern Maine in Little East action. Saturday is also Senior Day, so the seniors of the UMass Dartmouth women's basketball teams will be honored prior to the 1:00pm tipoff.
