VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Senior
Cameron Rodgers concluded his indoor campaign on Friday, competing in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries at the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Competing at his fifth overall Nationals - including second overall at indoor - the UMass Dartmouth hurdler placed 15th overall in an incredibly fast field of national competitors.
It was a stacked field for this year's preliminary heats of the 60-meter hurdles as seven of the eight finalists from the 2023 indoor championships returned. Rodgers, competing in the second heat of the day, crossed in a time of 8.27 to take 15th overall in the field. Of this year's top-eight to compete in Saturday's national final, six posted a time of sub-eight seconds to advance.
This marked the first appearance at Nationals for the 60-meter hurdles, as Rodgers is a three-time All-American in the 400-meter hurdles, taking third in 2023, fifth in 2022 and third in 2021. He also finished 18th overall in the high jump at the 2022 indoor national championships.
Â
Rodgers earned his spot at Nationals after posting a collegiate-best time of 8.12 at BU's David Hemery Valentine Invitational. After hitting a mark of 8.22 in the prelims, he recorded the 8.12 mark to finish seventh overall in a multi-divisional field.
Â
This season, Rodgers has finished seventh or better in all 17 events competed, including six first place finishes. Of those six victories, two were in the 60-m hurdles, two in the high jump, one in the 400-meter dash and the other in the 600-meter event.
Â
Highlighting his season was back-to-back meets at Tufts, as he claimed victory in the 60-meter hurdles in consecutive weekends. He posted first overall in the high jump and second in the long jump at the Coast Guard Winter Invite II, before his collegiate-best time at the Hemery Invite.
Â
Rodgers recorded top-3 finishes in all four events he competed in at the 2024 Little East Indoor Championships, including a victory in the high jump, which gave him his third LEC Championship in the event. He was second in the 55-meter hurdles and took third overall in both the long jump and the 400-m dash.
Â
A combined 15-time Little East Champion in both indoor and outdoor, Rodgers has earned 19 total medals. He was named the 2023 LEC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning four events. Rodgers was also the 2022 LEC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, as well as the 2021 LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Year and the 2020 LEC Rookie Field Athlete of the Year.
Rodgers and his Corsairs teammates return to action on March 30, kicking off the 2024 Outdoor Season with the Corsairs Classic at home.
