Women's Volleyball Sweeps in Tri-Match Action at Roger Williams

Corsairs post back-to-back three straight set wins on Saturday

BRISTOL, R.I - The UMass Dartmouth women's volleyball team swept Roger Williams University (25-15, 25-18, 26-24) and Framingham State University (25-13, 25-7, 25-7) in three straight sets on Saturday during tri-match action. The Corsairs improved to a 10-3 overall record with the pair of victories over the Hawks and Rams.

UMass Dartmouth jumped out to an early 3-0 lead to open the first match of the day highlighted by two service aces from sophomore Skye Peters and a kill from first year Olivia Seutter. Both teams exchanged points midway through the first set before the Corsairs strung six consecutive points together to take a 21-11 advantage. Senior Kate Wade a Seutter each notched a pair of kills to secure set one by a score of 25-15.
 
In the second set, UMass Dartmouth trailed 5-3 after Angela West tallied a pair of kills for Roger Williams. The Corsairs fought back posting their next 4-of-5 points on kills with Seutter registering a kill to give UMass Dartmouth a 11-10 edge. With the Hawks leading 16-14, the Corsairs kicked off an 11-2 run featuring three kills by sophomore Allison Pate who also posted an assisted block with classmate Maddie Carter to capture a 25-18 win in the second set.
 
Down 4-0 to start the third set, Seutter and Wade each produced a kill to cut Roger Williams lead in half. Shortly after West gave the Hawks an 11-8 edge, the Corsairs regained the lead, 13-12, thanks to another pair of kills by Seutter and one by Wade. UMass Dartmouth took a five-point advantage late in the set before the hosts generated a 6-1 run to even the score at 22-22. The Corsairs cemented the three straight set victory over Roger Williams following two late kills by Seutter.
 
During the second match of the day, Peters once again started the match with a service ace soon followed by a kill from Seutter to give UMass Dartmouth a 3-1 edge. Junior Sabrina Bordone registered a kill and an ace to boost the Corsairs to a four-point advantage. Framingham State quickly answered going on a 9-4 run to grab a 12-11 lead midway through the opening set. UMass Dartmouth went on a 12-point run to highlighted by two aces from Bordone and a kill from senior Monika Kristjansdottir to win set one 25-13.
 
Seutter and Wade lead the attack for the Corsairs combining for five kills to put UMass Dartmouth ahead 5-2 to open the second set. Seutter started a 7-0 run that was finished off by a kill from Sanker to extend the Corsairs advantage to 12-3. After Kristjansdottir recorded an ace, sophomore Ella Soutter produced her first kill of the afternoon to make it 18-5. Wade posted the final kill for UMass Dartmouth who sealed the second set, 25-7, to give the Corsairs a 2-0 lead.
 
In the third set, UMass Dartmouth wasted no time taking a commanding 11-1 advantage featuring two kills by Sanker along with a service ace from Wade in the run. Back-to-back kills from Seutter accompanied by three service aces from Kristjansdottir propelled UMass Dartmouth to a 3-0 win versus Framingham State after sealing set three by a final score of 25-7.

UMass Dartmouth was led by Seutter, who finished with 24 total kills on the day with six block assists and a dig. Wade registered 23 kills with a service ace, eight digs, and a block assist, while Sanker ended the day with 13 kills to go along with three block assists and five digs. Junior Emily Pogorelec recorded 32 digs for the Corsairs with six assists and a service ace.
 
On the passing effort, Peters wrapped up the day with 36 total assists along with four aces and 13 digs. Bordone posted 33 total assists with after two matches and tallied a new career-high with her six service aces against Framingham State.
 
The Corsairs return home to host the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from Tripp Athletic Center at 7:00 pm.
