Box Score BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons University capitalized on a three-goal opening quarter to defeat UMass Dartmouth in non-conference action on Daly Field Wednesday afternoon. The Sharks move to 8-1 on the season with the 8-2 victory, while the Corsairs slip to 3-7 overall.
Simmons got things going early in the opening quarter as Lilly Taglieri fed a pass to Sydney Gonyea for the 1-0 advantage. The home team made it a 2-0 advantage at 7:54 as Hailey Brisson banked home a feed from Zoe Schmailing past Corsairs goalie
Shane Cueman. Brisson added their second of the contest minutes later, putting the Sharks up by a 3-0 margin.
Second quarter action saw the Sharks push the margin to four (4-0) as Anna Tedeschi fired a shot in on goal, which was initially saved by Cueman. Unable to control the rebound, Tedeschi drove home her own rebound for the 4-0 advantage.
Out of the halftime, Simmons added to its advantage once again as Gonyea added another tally, but the Corsairs answered minutes later. A shot in on Sharks goalie Sam Buck by rookie forward

Sophia Bouffard was there to bang home the shot for the goal.
The Corsairs got back-to-back shots from senior midfielder
Jenna Carvalho and Bliven, but the Sharks answered once more on a tally from Brisson for the 6-1 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Simmons broke past the Corsairs defense once again as Katy Paveglio tallied. Bliven broke through for UMassD, tipping in a shot from rookie midfielder
Kayla Crai past Buck to close the margin to five (7-2). Simmons closed out the game's scoring late in the quarter for the final score.
The Corsairs were led by Bliven, who had the goal on three shots – all on goal. Cueman shouldered the loss, recording 10 saves over 45 minutes of action. Senior keeper
Hannah Trombly came on in relief over the final 15 minutes, making a save.
UMass Dartmouth returns to the field on Saturday in the Corsair Game of the Week at 4pm. The Corsairs welcome Little East-rival Western Connecticut State to Cressy Field.
