PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Powered by goals in all three periods, Plymouth State posted victory over UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference action on Friday at Hanaway Rink. The Panthers improve to 2-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play, while the Corsairs are now 2-3-0 with a 0-1-0 mark in the LEC.
After an opening period that saw the homestanding Panthers put up three goals, the two squads returned in the second stanza with Plymouth attacking the net once more. The score pushed to 4-0 at 5:56 as Will Redick fired a shot past UMD goalie
Graham Burke.
A tally from Etienne Tremblay-Mathieu made it a 5-0 margin after a score on the power play at 7:57, but the Corsairs finally answered at 10:16, capitalizing on a power play of their own. Rookie center
Kailin Chen got things going as he sent a shot in on Panthers goalie Connor Strobel. The puck caromed out as Chen dug it out of the boards, sending a pass down low to junior right winger
Alex Walker.
Walker passed the puck back to Chen, who then sent it to senior defender and captain
Lane Ruffner at the top of the left circle. Skating to the top of the slot, Ruffner's quick shot went past Strobel to cut the deficit to 5-1.
The Panthers added two more goals in the third period to close out the game's scoring.
In goal, the Corsairs saw Burke finish with 40 saves, including 15 in the first period, 13 in the second and 12 in the third.
The Corsairs return to action on Saturday, traveling to Henniker, N.H., to take on New England College in LEC play. It marks the 10th all-time meeting between the two teams – the first since 2022 – and the first meeting as conference-rivals. Puck drop is at 4pm.
