Men's Hockey Posts 3-2 Win Over Framingham State

Corsairs see three players score with a 25-save performance from Boos in net

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – UMass Dartmouth got goals from three different scorers and a 25-save performance from sophomore Samuel Boos to post a 3-2 win over Framingham State in the book end of a home-and-home at Hetland Arena. The Corsairs bounced back from last night's loss at FSU to improve to 2-2-0 on the season, while the visiting Rams are now 1-2-0 overall.

Framingham State jumped out to an early lead in the opening period as rookie left wing Connor McLachlan scored after stealing the puck and banking a shot in past Boos. The Corsairs countered less than a minute later on the power play as senior assistant captain and winger Tyler Stewart fired a shot in from the top of the right circle.

Stewart's shot banked in and deflected off rookie center Chris Cardillo, who got a piece of the puck as it deflected out to junior right wing Alex Walker as he found the back of the net at 2:41.

The Corsairs made it a 2-1 lead just under a minute later as Cardillo dug the puck out at the far boards, firing it across to rookie left wing Brogan Shea. The first year fired in a shot from the left circle, netting his first collegiate goal and the one-goal advantage at 3:34.

Second period action saw the Corsairs add to their lead, once again on the power play as the home team attacked the Rams' net. Stewart fired the puck through to senior assistant captain and winger Kevin Johnston, whose shot from the left side banked out to the right. Senior left winger Vincent Nicosia was there, firing an initial shot that was saved, but burying the rebound soon after for the 3-1 lead.

The two-goal lead held until the 5:55 of the third as sophomore center Devin Shepard corralled the puck off a pass from classmate and defender Zach Pappas. Navigating into the Corsairs end, he fired off a shot that sailed past Boos to put the visitors within one.

Framingham State continued to attack late, pulling their goalie in favor of the 6-on-5 advantage with just over a minute to play. The Rams saw a shot blocked and another go wide as the Corsairs defense held strong for the victory.

The Corsairs, who owned a 43-27 advantage in shots for the contest, went 2-for-3 on the power play. Rookie center Kailin Chen owned a game-high 16-9 margin on the faceoff.

In goal, Boos recorded 25 saves, including eight in the first and second, with nine coming in the third for his first collegiate victory. Rookie Isak Saldjoughi shouldered the loss for the Rams, recording 40 stops, including 17 in the first, 12 in the second and 11 in the third.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Friday, November 14 when it kicks off the inaugural Little East Conference schedule at Plymouth State. Game time is set for 6pm. The Corsairs conclude the weekend on Saturday with another conference game at New England College at 4pm.
