Corsairs Edge Roger Williams, 2-1, in Non-Conference Play

Routhier earns eighth win on the mound against the Hawks

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth softball team edged Roger Williams University, 2-1, in non-conference action on Friday afternoon, powered by a complete game from sophomore pitcher Lily Routhier. The Corsairs move to a 17-14 mark on the season while the Hawks dropped to a 18-13 overall record with the loss.

After a quiet opening two innings, junior third baseman RaeLynn Perregaux drilled the ball to left center field for an RBI double, scoring senior short stop Larrisa Piessens home, to give the Corsairs a 1-0 edge. A strong defensive effort by UMass Dartmouth helped hold off the Hawks offense recording nine ground outs and four fly outs through five straight innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, senior outfielder Kinu Takasugi got the bats going with her lead off single. After Perreagaux reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners, sophomore catcher Olivia Silva tagged Takasugi home with her sacrifice fly to double UMass Dartmouth's lead to 2-0. Roger Williams fought back in the final two innings posting one run in the top of the sixth, however the Corsairs held on to defeat the Hawks by a final score of 2-1.

Perregaux registered the lone RBI of the game after going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a stolen base. Piessens also produced two hits on three at-bats with one run while Takasugi had a 1-for-3 performance with one run. Junior outfielder Sydney Menz went 1-for-1 with one walk while Routhier was 1-for-3 at the plate.

Routhier earned her eighth win in the circle after throwing her fourth complete game of the season. The sophomore pitcher surrendered just two hits, both coming in the final two innings of the contest, and zero earned runs in the win. She gave up six total walks and recorded one strikeout after facing 30 batters.

UMass Dartmouth returns to Little East Conference (LEC) play on Sunday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. taking on the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine.
