Women’s Soccer Ties Regis College in Season Home Opener

Murray nets equalizer in collegiate debut

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team tied against Regis College, 1-1, on Friday afternoon during their 2025 season home opener from Cressy Field. First year Reianna Murray scored the second half equalizer in her collegiate debut with first year Isla Thompson picking up the assist.

The Pride tested Corsairs goalkeeper Grace Conti early in the match as Meadow Comeiro fired a shot on frame that Conto saved. Junior captain Adriana Adames posted the first pair of opening shots for UMass Dartmouth before first year Emilie Trainque rifled a shot on target that Regis goalkeeper Cassidy Van Cott stopped. Regis grabbed a 1-0 lead just before halftime after Julia Benvegnu converted from the penalty spot.

UMass Dartmouth answered early in the second half as first year Rieanna Murray squeezed the ball into the bottom left corner off the assist from classmate Isla Thompson to knot the game up at 1-1. Regis responded quickly by creating two goal-scoring opportunities, but first year goalkeeper Marina Cassano stepped up to make two big saves for the Corsairs.

The Corsairs earned a freekick a few yards outside the box with under five minutes remaining in the game. First year Jordan Costa took the freekick and ripped a shot off the crossbar. First year Kiariana Williams and senior Antonella Goncalves each managed to fire a shot off the rebound but were unable to find the back of the net enroute to a 1-1 draw.

Regis outshot UMass Dartmouth 17-12 and held an 8-2 advantage in shots on-goal. The Pride also won the corner kick battle with four in the contest while the Corsairs earned two corner kicks. For fouls, Regis edged UMass Dartmouth 13-12 while both sides picked up one yellow card apiece.

Murray produced her first career goal as a Corsair in her collegiate debut after finishing the game with a pair of shots. Thompson registered her first career assist in her collegiate debut and posted one shot attempt in the afternoon.

In net for the Corsairs, Conti allowed one goal and made four saves in the opening half of the game. Cassano, making her collegiate debut for UMass Dartmouth, checked in for the second half and earned her first three career saves between the posts.

The Corsairs are on the road for their next non-conference tilt at Elms College on Saturday, August 30th. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
