DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team shouldered a tough 5-1 loss in their 2025 season home opener against Framingham State University by a final score of 5-1. The Corsairs open the season 0-1 while the Rams capture their first victory of the year.
The Rams took an early 1-0 lead in the game thanks to a score by Natalia Roehr just five minutes into the contest. The Corsairs continued to battle towards the end of the first period and generated attacking momentum by earning three penalty corners. Sophomore

Sam Gacioch fired a shot on target that Rams goalie Kaitlyn Tello stopped. On the third penalty corner, UMass Dartmouth capitalized as junior
Brooke Lydon squeezed the ball into the back of the cage to tie the game up at 1-1 heading into the second period.
The Corsairs controlled the opening minutes of the second period recording seven shots featuring five saves from Tello. At the 26
th minute mark, Hogan slotted the ball into the bottom right corner to put Framingham State back in front with a 2-1 advantage. Shortly after, the Rams doubled their lead just before halftime as Marina Cadena scored to make it 3-1.

Shane Cueman posted back-to-back stops while junior captain Sohpia Bouffard recorded a defensive save. On a Rams penalty corner, Natalia Roehr tipped the ball off a hard pass from Ashley Malmquist to extend their lead to 4-1. Framingham State solidified their 5-1 win after Hogan tallied her third goal of the afternoon late in third period.
Despite the score, the Corsairs outshot Framingham State 27-19 and held a 16-14 edge on shots on target. UMass Dartmouth also earned 18 total penalty corners compared to the Rams with four corners in the game.
Lydon posted the first goal of the 2025 season for UMass Dartmouth, her seventh in her career. She finished the day with eight shots including six on-goal while Lozeau recorded a career-high nine shots in contest with four on target. Junior
Sam King produced 2-fo-3 shots on-goal while first year
Carly Wang tallied her first pair of shots as a Corsair in her collegiate debut. Defensively, Bouffard recorded a pair of defensive saves for the Corsairs while senior captain
Lillian Bento also picked up one defensive save in the contest.
Cueman picked up the loss after registering six saves for the Corsairs and allowing five goals. Her counterpart recorded 15 stops and allowed one goal for the Rams.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Elms College on Tuesday, Sept. 2 for their next non-conference game of the season. The contest is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start time.
