FRANKLIN, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team edged Dean College on the road, 2-0, in non-conference action to secure their second straight win of the season. Junior captain
Mario Rodriguez tallied a goal and an assist in the victory while first year
Nick Scanlon notched his second consecutive score to move the Corsairs to a 2-0 mark.
Rodriguez registered the first shot on frame for the Corsairs at the 11 minute mark that Bulldogs goalkeeper Jake Godwin was able to save. Shortly after, senior goalkeeper
Ethan Donahue produced his first stop of the afternoon to deny a shot from Will Chase. In the 23
rd minute, Rodriguez capitalized on a mishandled pass in the backfield and touched the ball pass Godwin and int0o the back of the net to give UMass Dartmouth a 1-0 edge.
Donahue recorded another save for the Corsairs to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard late in the opening half. Senior
Sam Gagner posted a shot that went over the crossbar before Scanlon fired back-to-back shots that went just wide, but UMass Dartmouth held on to their one-goal lead heading into the break.
The Corsairs came out strong to start the second half of the game as senior
Nick Mahjoory recorded a pair of early shots for the visitors. UMass Dartmouth's attack gained momentum in the closing minutes of the game as first year
Lennon Rodrigues fired a shot on target that Godwin saved at the 76-minute mark.
The Corsairs pressure resulted in another costly turnover for the Bulldogs as Rodriguez slotted the ball through Dean's defense to Scanlon who beat his defender to rip a shot into the back of the net. UMass Dartmouth secured their 2-0 road win at Dean thanks to a pair of late saves by Donahue moving the Corsairs to a 2-0 start on the young season.
Rodriguez recorded his first goal and assist of the 2025 season for a career game-high three points. It marks his second career goal as a Corsair after finishing the game with a team-high four shots. Scanlon netted his second consecutive goal of the year for two points to cement UMass Dartmouth's 2-0 road win.
Donahue picked up his first shutout win of the season after making four saves in the game. Godwin wrapped up the match with two goals allowed and five stops for the Bulldogs.
The Corsairs return home to host Salve Regina University on Wednesday, Sept. 3
rd at 6:00 p.m. their next non-conference tilt.
