Men's Soccer Tripped Up by Salve Regina

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team were tripped up by Salve Regina University, 2-0, on Wednesday night in non-conference action from Cressy Field. The Corsairs dropped to a 2-1 mark on the young season while the Seahawks improved to a 1-0-1 overall record.

Salve Regina took a quick 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game, respectively, thanks to a score by Brandon Frank. UMass Dartmouth responded as senior Nick Mahjoory fired a left footed shot that went just wide of the Seahawks nets. Frist year Lennon Rodrigues and senior captain Mario Rodrguez each posted a shot for the Corsairs approaching the midway point of the opening half.

Chase Zorner tested Corsairs goalkeeper Ethan Donahue with a shot on frame that he was able to save for his first stop of the night. About five minutes later, Lincoln Freeman squeezed the ball into the back of the net to put the Seahawks ahead 2-0 heading into the break.

Sophomore Daniel Jordan posted a shot on target that Seahawks goalkeeper Brennan Silva saved to open the second half of the contest. Around the 70th minute of the game, Donahue came up big for UMass Dartmouth recording two stops. The Corsairs continued to battle but Salve Regina held on to their 2-0 advantage to secure their first win of the season.

The Seahawks outshot the Corsairs 14-9 and held a 9-3 advantage in shots on target. UMass Dartmouth won the corner kick battle with six in the contest compared to the Seahawks with two corner kicks.

Senior Nate Cordeiro and sophomore Riley Rebello each ended the game with a team-high two shot attempts with both Rebello's shots going on frame. Donahue finished the game with seven total saves and two goals allowed in net for the Corsairs.

UMass Dartmouth returns to non-conference action on Saturday, Sept. 6 hosting Westfield State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Cressy Field.
