Michael Veegh and Ewan McLeod named LEC Rookies of the Week in Track & Field - January 12

Rookie Duo Tabbed For Weekly LEC Honors

Veegh and McLeod garner first weekly conference track & field recognition

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Little East Conference (LEC) has announced its weekly honorees in men's indoor track & field and two UMass Dartmouth student-athletes have been recognized. Freshmen Michael Veegh and Ewan McLeod were named the Rookie Track and Rookie Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, following outstanding collegiate debuts last weekend.

Veegh, who hails from Tiverton, R.I., won the 600-meter run at the non-team scoring Wesleyan Winter Invite on Saturday with a time of 1:24.72. His mark was also a New England DIII Provisional qualifying mark. Currently, Veegh ranks seventh in the New England DIII rankings, while owning the top time amongst all Little East athletes.

McLeod, a native of Raynham, Mass., finished in a three-way tie for first in his collegiate debut last weekend. He posted a personal-best height of 1.95 meters (6' 4.75") in the high jump to tie with his own teammates and is currently ranked 29th amongst NCAA Division III athletes. In addition, his mark was a New England DIII Automatic qualifying mark and he was currently third in New England DIII, second in the East Region and first overall in the Little East.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action next weekend, heading to Brandeis University to compete in the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational on Saturday, January 17.
