Men's Track & Field Takes 2nd at Poyau Memorial Invite

Corsairs see a number of outstanding efforts in runner-up finish at Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth men's indoor track & field team had an outstanding effort on Saturday, finishing second overall at the 2026 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational at Brandeis on Saturday. The Corsairs compiled 123.5 points overall, finishing second to WPI (170.5) in the seven team field. Pacing the way was 16 personal records, six season best marks, five victories and five New England D3 qualifying marks.
 
In the track events, the Corsairs saw rookie Jayden Francois finished eighth overall in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a personal record and New England D3 Provisional time of 8.93. Sophomore Bunmi Fabikun was 14th overall with a time of 9.49, while senior Vincenzo Videtta posted 17th with a mark of 10.46.
 
The 60-meter dash was a full field for UMass Dartmouth, led by rookie Shemar Dillon who was 11th overall with a mark of 7.25. Junior Justin Andrade was 14th in 7.32, while rookie Dylan Njika was 16th in 7.37. Freshman Bryce Kankam was 17th overall in 7.37 as sophomore Maddox Dupre was 18th with a season best time of 7.39. Senior Jalen Castillo was 19th in 7.39 while sophomore Kevin Ayala was 20th in 7.42.
 
It was another stacked field in the 300-meter dash, led by sophomore Daniel Jordan who recorded a time of 35.99 for the victory. That mark was not only a personal record, but a UMass Dartmouth school record as well. Classmate Zane Gordon was close behind in second with a time of 36.37, while rookie Michael Veegh was sixth in 37.12. Fabikun posted ninth overall 37.40 as rookie Daniel Ward was 10th overall in 37.65. Dillon posted 12th with a personal record time of 37.80, while rookie Trevor Godfrey was 14th in 38.07.
 
Junior RJ Stone was 15th in 38.39, while sophomore Jonathan Gourdine (18th; 38.70), Dupre (20th; 39.14), rookie Kaden Thomas (22nd; 39.28) and Andrade (23rd; 39.28) all posted personal record marks in the 300-meters.
 
In the 1,000-meters, junior Joseph Stanton had an outstanding effort, taking third overall in 2:33.64. That mark was not only a personal record, but a New England D3 Provisional qualifying mark. Junior Zach Shute posted 10th overall in 2:42.83, while rookie Edward Yeboah was 13th in 2:46.39. Junior Tyler Scanlon posted 14th in a season best time of 2:47.01 as rookie Jacob Marques was 19th in 2:54.12. Junior Ben Bairos was 21st in 2:58.13, while sophomore Isaac Toweh has a personal record time of 2:59.13 for 22nd overall. Senior Cooper Blatz rounded out the action in 25th with a season best time of 3:06.05.
 
The 3,000-meters saw sophomore Jackson Caron post ninth overall in 9:19.73 as rookie Stevie MacLennan was 13th in 9:27.64.
 
Rounding out the track events was the 4x400-meter relays, paced by the foursome of Veegh, Ward, Jordan and Gordon as they took second overall in a season best time of 3:26.38. The relay of Stanton, Shute, Yeboah and sophomore Connor Bruni was sixth in a season best time of 3:39.78, while Fabikun, Godfrey, Gourdine and Stone combined for seventh overall in a season best time of 3:41.35.
 
Barbato, Scanlon, MacLennan and junior James Carriere were eighth in 3:49.13 while Toweh, senior Collin Ozturk, sophomore Michael Gemelli and Marques were ninth in 4:04.46.
 
In the field events, sophomore Mickey Valentino was fifth overall in the weight throw with a mark of 13.27 meters (43' 6.50"), while classmate Kevin Saenz was 12th with a throw of 11.09 meters (36' 4.75"). Rookie Dan McCarthy was 15th with a mark of 10.89 meters (35' 8.75"), while classmate Michael Precious was 17th with a throw of 10.56 meters (34' 7.75").
 
The shot put saw sophomore Ancil Alexander capture the victory with a New England D3 Automatic qualifying mark of 15.92 meters (52' 2.75"). Rookie Chalais Saintill was third overall with a New England D3 Provisional mark of 13.68 meters (44' 10.75"), while Saenz was seventh with a throw of 12.42 meters (40' 9"). Valentino posted eighth with a mark of 12.35 meters (40' 6.35") with McCarthy earning 11th with a throw of 11.94 meters (39' 2.25"). Rookie Malik Escoffrey was 27th (8.41m; 27' 7.25") with Precious earning 28th (7.81m; 25' 7.5").
 
In the high jump, sophomore Sean Patrone earned the victory, edging out teammate and rookie Ewan McLeod as both posted New England D3 Automatic qualifying marks of 1.97 meters (6' 5.50"). It also marked a personal record for McLeod. Sophomore Devin Nieves recorded eighth in the pole vault with a personal record height of 3.25 meters (10' 8").
 
The triple jump saw another victory, this time from rookie Anthony Drinkwater, who notched a New England D3 Provisional mark of 13.22 meters (43' 4.5") as rookie Marcus Pires was fourth with a jump of 12.01 meters (39' 5"). Ayala finished seventh with a jump of 11.07 meters (36' 4").
 
Concluding the field events was the long jump as Kankam posted the victory with a New England D3 Provisional mark of 6.69 meters (21' 11.5"). Francois posted fifth with a jump of 6.14 meters (20' 1.75") with Nieves and Njika taking sixth (6.13m; 20' 1.5") and 10th (5.49m; 18' 0.25"), respectively.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action next weekend, heading to Cambridge on January 24 to compete at the Gordon Kelly Invitational at MIT.
