Corsairs Come Up Short Against Regis

WESTON, Mass.  – The UMass Dartmouth women's swimming team came up short against the Pride of Regis College (Mass.), 137-103, on Friday night from the Regis Pool. The Corsairs captured nine total first place finishes versus the Pride in addition to winning the 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
Senior Kylie Winer had a strong performance for the Corsairs after posting three individual wins. She kicked off the night with a first-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 12:17.89. Winer went on to secure another victory in the 50-yard breaststroke event, clocking in at 34.69 which also marked a personal best. She then wrapped up the meet with a 1:15.87 effort in the 100-yard breaststroke, good for her third first-place finish.
 
Junior Skye Peters also wrapped up the meet with three individual wins for UMass Dartmouth. She began the night in the 50-yard backstroke, clocking at 32.59 to earn her first victory. Peters then competed in the 50-yard freestyle event and took first place again in a field of seven swimmers with a time of 27.70. She concluded the meet by securing first overall in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.92.
 
First year Abby Fernandes collected a pair of first place finishes for UMass Dartmouth to go along with a second-place finish. Fernandes started the meet in the 200-yard freestyle and clocked in at 2:13.65 to secure second overall. She went on to win her next two events in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.85) and 100-yard individual medley (1:11.58).
 
Senior Isabella Gerardi collected a first-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly after posting a time of 31.87 seconds. Gerardi also competed in the 100-yard butterfly and earned second overall in the event with a time of 1:13.77. The veteran swimmer opened the meet with a 2:21.82 performance in the 200-yard freestyle to claim third place.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Corsairs defeated the Pride after finishing with a time of 1:52.51 featuring Winer, Gerardi, Peters, and Fernandes.

"This was a great start to our double header weekend," said head coach Michael Kroll after today's meet against Regis. "We had a lot of good times in a sprint heavy meet. We are looking forward to closing out the weekend with our senior meet tomorrow against the University of New England." 
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday, January 24 hosting the University of New England for their Senior Day meet starting at 1:00 p.m. from the Tripp Natatorium.
