Men's Track & Field Finishes Strong at Gordon Kelly Invite

Corsairs post several strong efforts at multi-divisional, non-scoring meet

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Behind several strong performances, including a win by sophomore Daniel Jordan in the 200-meter dash, the UMass Dartmouth men's indoor track and field team had a solid effort at the 2026 Gordon Kelly Invitational. The meet, which was non-scoring, saw a bevvy of squads from across all three divisions. 

The track events saw rookie Shemar Dillon kick things off in fine fashion, taking 17th overall in the 60-meter dash with a personal record and New England D3 Provisional qualifying mark of 7.16. Junior Justin Andrade was 31st in the event with a mark of 7.26, while rookie Carlos Cruz was 38th with a time of 7.39. Jordan powered his way to victory in the 200m dash with a personal record time of 22.81. Also finishing strong was Dillon in ninth with a time of 23.36, while rookie Michael Veegh was 14th in 23.71.

Veegh went on to post fourth overall in the 400-meter dash, recording a personal record mark of 51.68. Sophomore Zane Gordon was next across for the Corsairs in fifth with a time of 51.73, while Jordan ran to sixth overall in 51.82. The 800-meter run saw junior Zach Shute take eighth with a time of 2:01.91, while rookie Edward Yeboah was 21st with a mark of 2:05.59. Junior Tyler Scanlon went on to finish 27th with a time of 2:07.35. Senior Colin Ozturk posted a time of 4:45.13 - a new personal record - to earn 47th in the Mile event, while sophomore Michael Gemelli was 57th, also notching a personal record with a time of 4:57.08.

In the 3,000-meter event, junior Cameron Thompson had an outstanding effort, finishing fifth overall with a personal record and New England D3 Provisional Qualifying mark of 8:41.67. Sophomore Jackson Caron ran to 11th overall in a personal record time of 9:06.35, while rookie William Johnson also ran a personal record time of 9:53.24 to finish 24th overall. Senior Ethan Sylvia went on to claim victory in the 5,000-meters with a time of 16:09.39, while in the 60-meter high hurdles, rookie Jayden Francois was 18th with a mark fo 8.95.

In the field events, sophomore Sean Patrone captured the victory in the high jump with a season's best and New England D3 Automatic Qualifying mark of 2.01 meters (6' 7"). Senior Vincenzo Videtta and rookie Ewan McLeod posted fifth and sixth, respectively, as each notched a jump of 1.91 meters (6' 3.25") - which were also New England D3 Provisional Qualifying marks.

The long jump saw Francois return to take 13th overall with a distance of 6.14 meters (20' 1.75"), while in the triple jump, rookie Marcus Pires posted sixth overall with a mark of 12.58 meters (41' 3.25"). Sophomore Kevin Ayala placed 10th overall with a distance of 11.32 meters (37' 1.75"). 

Sophomore Ancil Alexander paced the way in a crowded shot put field, taking second overall with a New England D3 Automatic Qualifying mark of 15.89 meters (52' 1.75"). Rookie Chalais Saintil was close behind in fifth, recording a personal record throw of 13.76 meters (45' 1.75"). Classmate Dan McCarthy finished 13th overall with a throw of 12.62 meters (41' 5").

The weight throw event saw Alexander finish seventh overall with a personal record and New England D3 Provisional Qualifying mark of 14.84 meters (48' 8.25"). Rookie Michael Gama recorded 10th overall with a personal record and New England D3 Provisional mark of 14.66 meters (48' 1.25"), while sophomore Mickey Valentino was 18th on the afternoon with a throw of 13.31 meters (43' 8").

UMass Dartmouth returns to action next Saturday, heading to the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University.
