PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference (LEC) has announced its weekly honorees in men's indoor track & field and two UMass Dartmouth student-athletes have been recognized.
Cameron Thompson was named the Track Athlete of the Week, while
Sean Patrone was tabbed the Field Athlete of the Week. It marks the first weekly honor of the indoor season for both.
Thompson, a junior who hails from Sherborn, Mass., finished fifth overall in the 3,000-meter run at Saturday's multi-divisional Gordon Kelly Invite at MIT. He posted a personal best time of 8:41.67 and was the top Division III finisher in the event. Additionally, his time was a New England Division III Provisional Qualifying time.
Currently, Thompson – who was an All-Region and NCAA Championship participant during the cross country season in the fall – is ranked 77th in NCAA DIII in the 3,000-meters. He is also 17th in New England D3, ninth in the East Region and is first overall in the Little East. His performance also marked the fourth-fastest performance in Corsairs history.
Patrone, a sophomore from Wilmington, Mass., captured victory in the high jump at the Kelly Invite. He recorded a season and indoor-best height of 2.01 meters (6' 7") – which was a New England D3 Automatic Qualifying mark.
On the season, Patrone has posted multiple NED3 Automatic marks, and his performance at MIT saw him move into 14th overall in NCAA Division III. He also ranks second overall in NED3 and the East Region and is the top high jumper in the Little East. His performance was also the fifth-highest indoor performance in UMass Dartmouth history.
The Corsairs return to action next Saturday, competing at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University.
