BOSTON, Mass. – It was a day of records, top marks and personal bests for the UMass Dartmouth men's indoor track & field team, which saw 15 student-athletes in action at the multi-divisional John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University. The Corsairs were paced by a victory, a school record and the third-best throw in Division III this season from sophomore
Ancil Alexander in the shot put.
Alexander claimed victory in the shot put with a throw of 17.34 meters (56' 10.75"), achieving the mark on his fifth throw. The sophomore eclipsed the school record – previously held by Andrew Swallow '23 (16.48m; 2022) – on his fourth throw with a mark of 16.76 meters (55' 0"). His mark not only was a New England Division III Automatic Qualifying mark, but firmly places him in the Top-10 among all Division III competitors.
Also competing in the shot put was sophomore
Mickey Valentino, who placed 15th overall with a New England DIII Provisional mark of 13.81 meters (45' 3.75"). Rookie Chalais Saintil went on to record a New England DIII Provisional distance of 13.55 meters (44' 5.5") – good for 18th overall.
In the weight throw, rookie
Michael Gama posted a personal record and New England DIII Provisional mark of 15.55 meters (51' 0.25") to finish 17th overall, while in the high jump, sophomore
Sean Patrone was seventh overall with a New England DIII Provisional mark of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75"). Senior
Vincenzo Videtta also posted a strong effort, earning 14th overall with a mark of 1.85 meters (6' 0.75").
The track events were paced by a number of strong performances, including junior captain
Cameron Thompson. He ran to 99th overall in the 1 Mile run with a personal record and NED3 Provisional time of 4:16.31. That time also marked the third-best mark all-time in program history in the indoor Mile. Senior
Ethan Sylvia also posted a personal record time of 4:30.30, earning 185th, while sophomore
Jackson Caron was 228th with a time of 4:42.45.
In the 800-meters, junior Zack Schute was 118th with a time of 2:00.47, while in the 60-meter high hurdles, rookie
Jayden Francois took second overall with a personal record and NED3 Provisional time of 8.88. Classmate
Shemar Dillon ran to 88th overall in the 200-meter dash with a personal record time of 23.01, while in the 400-meter dash, sophomore
Zane Gordon was 29th overall with an NED3 Provisional mark of 49.88. Rookie
Michael Veegh was 57th overall with a personal record and NED3 Provisional time of 50.52, while sophomore
Bunmi Fabikun was 94th with a personal record time of 51.92.
The Corsairs return to action next weekend, traveling to Norton, Mass., to compete in the Wheaton Invitational on Saturday.
