Nine Compete at BU's Hemery Valentine Invitational

Five PR's met and seven New England qualifying marks hit at multi-divisional meet

BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth men's indoor track & field team saw nine student-athletes in action at the multi-divisional David Hemery Valentine Invitational – hosted by Boston University – on Friday. The Corsairs saw five personal records met, along with seven New England Division III qualifying performances.
 
Junior Zack Shute led things off in the 800-meter run, notching a personal best time of 2:00.40 to earn 115th in the highly competitive field. Next up was the 200-meter dash, which saw three competitors for the Corsairs, led by sophomore Daniel Jordan. He took 50th overall, recording a personal best and NED3 Provisional Qualifying time of 22.40. It also marked the fifth-fastest indoor performance in program history.
 
Rookie Shemar Dillon ran to 62nd overall in the 200m, posting a personal record time of 22.54 – a mark that was also an NED3 Provisional qualifying time and the ninth-fastest indoor time in program history. Junior Justin Andrade rounded out the efforts in the event, taking 77th overall with an NED3 Provisional qualifying time of 22.72. His mark tied the 10th-fastest time in indoor program history.
 
In the 400-meter dash, rookie Michael Veegh powered his way to 40th overall with a personal best and NED3 Provisional qualifying time of 49.69. His effort marked the sixth-fastest indoor performance in UMD history. Sophomore Zane Gordon was close behind with an NED3 Provisional qualifying time of 50.11, while classmate Bunmi Fabikun took 107th with a time of 52.17.
 
The Mile event saw another outstanding performance by junior Cameron Thompson, who powered his way to 219th overall in the competitive event. He posted a personal best and NED3 Provisional qualifying time of 4:15.88 – a mark that was the third-fastest indoor performance in UMD history.
 
Rounding out the efforts was sophomore Ancil Alexander, who finished third overall in the multi-divisional field. He posted a throw of 16.82 meters (55' 2.25"), notching another New England Division III Automatic qualifying score.
 
The Corsairs return to action on Saturday, traveling to Medford, Mass., for the Tufts Cupid Challenge. Action begins at 9am.
