PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Little East has announced its weekly honors in men's indoor track & field and two UMass Dartmouth student-athletes were recognized. Sophomore
Ancil Alexander was named the conference's Field Athlete of the Week for the third straight week, while freshman
Anthony Drinkwater was the Field Rookie of the Week - marking his first honor of the season.
Alexander, who hails from Taunton, Mass., captured weekly honors yet again after finishing third overall in the shot put at the multi-divisional David Hemery Valentine Inviational at Boston University. The second-year thrower posted a mark of 16.82 meters (55' 2.25"), which was another New England Division III Automatic qualifying mark. Additionally, five of his six throws in the event at BU eclipsed 16.37 meters.Â
The sophomore - who has been honored in three straight weeks - currently ranks fifth overall in NCAA Division III in the shot put after posting a career-best and school record mark of 17.49 meters (57' 4.75") at the Wheaton Invitational. Alexander, who ranks first in New England D3, the East Region and the Little East - has broken the school record twice this season.Â
Drinkwater, a Brookline, Mass., native, garnered his first weekly award of the season after posting eighth overall in the triple jump at the Tufts Cupid Challenge. He recorded a distance of 13.43 meters (44' .75"), which was not only a collegiate-best mark, but also a New England Division III Provisional qualifier.Â
Currently, Drinkwater ranks 25th in New England D3. He is also 13th in the East Region and second in the Little East in the triple jump. Through four meets this season, Drinkwater has finished eighth or better in the triple jump, including a win at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invite at Brandeis with a mark of 13.22 meters (43' 4.5").
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday, heading to Plymouth State University to compete at the 2026 Little East Conference Indoor Championships. Action gets underway at 10am.
