PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference has announced its major year-end award winners in men's indoor track & field and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete
Michael Veegh has been named the Indoor Rookie Track Athlete of the Year. It marks the first year-end honor for the rookie, who has had an outstanding season.
Veegh, who hails from Tiverton, R.I., has had a strong start to his career with nine finishes in the top-6 and solid efforts in multi-divisional competition. He has posted two victories on the year, including at last week's Little East Championships, where he won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.54 and took second in the 4x400-meter relay with a mark of 3:28.67.
The rookie was named All-LEC First Team for the 400-meters, which also garnered him All-Rookie Team recognition, while capturing All-LEC Second Team honors in the relay finish. Currently, Veegh owns the top times in the squad for the 400m (49.69), the 600m (1:23.06) and the 4x400m relay (3:26.38).
Veegh opened the 2026 season with a win in the 600-meters at the Wesleyan Winter Invite, recording a time of 1:24.72. He went on to place sixth in the 300-meters with a personal best time of 37.12, while helping the 4x400m relay to second in 3:26.38 at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invite at Brandeis on January 17. Veegh finished fourth overall in the 400m (51.68) and 14th in the 200m with a personal best time of 23.71 at the Gordon Kelly Invite, before finishing 57th overall in the 400m at the multi-divisional Terrier Classic with a mark of 50.52.
An LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Week selection, he was sixth in the 400 (51.51) and fourth in the 4x400 relay (3:33.41) at the Wheaton Invite before posting a personal best time of 49.69 at the multi-divisional Hemery Valentine Invite for 40th overall. He went on to his a personal record mark of 1:23.06 in the 600m to place second at the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
Veegh is among those on the squad who have hit provisional marks for the DIII New England Championship, which will be hosted at the TRACK at New Balance. Action begins on Sunday at 9:30am with a number of qualified men and women from the Corsairs squads heading North to Boston.
