PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Little East Conference announced its weekly honors in women's lacrosse and two UMass Dartmouth student-athletes were recognized. Junior
Maddy Allen was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman
Cat Whitehouse was named the conference's Rookie of the Week. It marks the first weekly honor for Allen and the second straight for Whitehouse.
Allen, a captain from Whitman, Mass., produced an incredible 15 goals with seven assists for 22 points as the Corsairs went 2-1 last week. She recorded 37 shots, including 27 on goal, adding nine ground balls, 11 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Allen averaged 5.00 goals per game, 2.33 assists per game and 7.33 points per game on the week.
The midfielder recorded five goals with an assist for six points, adding two ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers in an 18-6 victory over Mass. Maritime on Wednesday. Allen then posted a single-game career-best seven goals with four assists and 11 points in a 21-10 victory over Regis (MA) on Saturday. Five of her seven goals came in the fourth quarter, including three straight in less than two minutes. She also added four ground balls, six draw controls and two caused turnovers. Allen rounded out the week scoring three goals with two assists for five points in a tough 20-7 loss at Bates on Sunday. In that game, she posted three ground balls with two draw controls and three caused turnovers.Â
Allen currently leads the Little East and the Corsairs with 23 goals, adding 10 assists for a conference and team-high 33 points as a starter in all six games. She has recorded 63 shots, including 45 on goal for an impressive .714 shots on goal percentage. Currently, Allen leads the LEC in shot per game, averaging 10.50 per contest. Of her 23 goals, two have been game-winners and two have been on the free position. She has also added a team-best 18 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers, also posting 16 draw controls - which ranks second overall on the team.
Whitehouse, a freshman from Newington, Conn., picked up her second straight weekly honor after scoring five goals with six assists for 11 points last week. She scooped up four ground balls with four draw controls and a caused turnover. Three of her goals came on the free position. She also had six shots – all on goal.
The midfielder recorded two goals with four assists for six points in the win Mass. Maritime on Wednesday, adding a ground ball and three draw controls. Whitehouse then posted three goals with two assists for five points in the victory over the Pride on Saturday. She went on to record three ground balls and a caused turnover in Sunday's loss to the Bobcats.
Whitehouse currently ranks third on the team in scoring with eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points as a starter in all six games this season. She has a team-high five free position goals, adding nine ground balls, four caused turnovers and five draw controls. Currently, Whitehouse ranks third in the Little East in assists per game with a 1.67 average.
UMass Dartmouth (3-3) returns to action on Saturday when it opens Little East Conference action at WestConn for a 12pm tilt.
