BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth men's outdoor track and field team competed at the Bears Invitational – hosted at Bridgewater State University on Friday. The Corsairs saw a number of solid efforts on the day.
The track events kicked off with a 1-2 finish for the Corsairs relay squads as junior
Justin Andrade, sophomores
Daniel Jordan and
Zane Gordon, along with rookie
Shemar Dillon claimed victory in 41.93 - which was a school record mark, eclipsing the previous mark of 42.11 set in 2025. The B relay of sophomore Jonanthan Gourdine, rookies
Carlens Elas and
Carlos Cruz, along with sophomore
Maddox Dupre took second in 43.28.
In the 3,000-meter Steeplechase, rookie
Stevie MacLennan claimed victory in 11:18.22 – a collegiate-best. Sophomore
Jack Barbato went on to place fourth in the 1500-meters, finishing in 4:29.79, while rookie
William Johnson was fifth overall in 4:32.69.
The 110-meter hurdles saw rookie
Jayden Francois earn second overall, crossing the line in 15.85, while classmate
Karens Antoine was sixth in 17.67. In the 400-meter dash, junior
Joseph Stanton was fifth overall in 52.73 – a collegiate-best. Rookie
Michael Veegh was sixth in 53.40.
Sophomore
Bunmi Fabikun placed ninth in the 400m with a time of 53.99, while junior
RJ Stone was 11th in 54.87. Classmate
Zack Shute placed 12th in a collegiate-best time of 55.22, followed by rookies
Kaden Thomas and
Jacob Marques in 13th (55.86) and 14th (55.92), respectively. Sophomore
Isaac Toweh was 16th (56.87) with senior
Fernando Gaspar Rodriguez placing 20th (1:05.10).
The 100-meter dash saw Dillon place third overall in 11.10, while Gourdine and Dupre posted eighth (11.36) and ninth (11.37), respectively. Sophomore
Kevin Ayala was 11th overall (11.49) with Cruz posting 15th (11.73). Rookie
Ethaniel Noncent posted 19th (11.95) with classmate
Marcus Pires finished 21st (12.01).
Rookie
Dylan Njika placed 23rd (12.23), while classmate
Bryce Kankam was 24th (12.44). Antonie rounded out the efforts in 32nd (12.79).
In the 800-meters, rookie
Edward Yeboah posted second overall with a collegiate-best time of 2:02.14. Senior
Ethan Sylvia ran to sixth overall in 2:03.91 – another collegiate-best, while rookie
Trevor Godfrey ran to ninth in 2:07.75 – a collegiate-best as well. Sophomore
Connor Bruni was 11th overall in 2:08.59 (collegiate-best), while classmate
Michael Gemelli was 14th in 2:09.21 (collegiate-best). Senior
Cooper Blatz rounded out the efforts in 18th (2:29.37).
The 400-meter hurdles saw sophomore
Daniel Ward post fourth overall in a collegiate-best time of 1:01.03, while junior
Josh Kurutu finished 10th in 1:09.09. The 200-meter dash was paced by Jordan, who was fifth overall in 22.39. Elas took sixth in a collegiate-best time of 22.55, while Gordon was seventh in 22.79. Dillon was 10th overall in 23.07, while Dupre posted 12th in 23.28.
Gourdine finished 13th (23.55) in the 200m, followed by rookie
Jaiden Cohall in 15th (23.58) with Cruz taking 20th (24.03). Ayala was 21st (24.12), Stone posted 22nd (24.15) with sophomore
Devin Nieves in 24th (24.19). Pires took 25th (24.31) with Fabikun in 26th (24.35). Noncent was 28th (24.37), followed by Marques (33rd – 24.78), Njika (36th – 25.00), Toweh (37th – 25.03) and Gaspar Rodriguez (41st – 25.85).
The 5,000-meters saw junior
Ronan Maloney claim victory with a collegiate-best time of 16:38.44, while classmate
Ben Bairos was fourth in 17:29.11. Junior
Tyler Scanlon finished fifth in 17:49.33 with rookie
Jake Faria finishing sixth in 18:39.28.
In the field events, rookie
Ewan McLeod finished second overall with a height of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75"), while sophomore
Sean Patrone and senior
Vincenzo Videtta took third and fourth, respectively, both posting heights of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75"). Nieves finished fourth overall in the pole vault with a height of 3.25 meters (10' 8").
In the long jump, Francois claimed victory with a collegiate-best distance of 6.50 meters (21' 4"), while Kankam posted fourth overall with a mark of 6.00 meters (19' 8.25"). The triple jump saw Pires take second overall with a jump of 12.40 meters (40' 8.25"). Ayala was eighth with a mark of 11.76 meters (38' 7"), while Njika posted ninth with a jump of 11.61 meters (38' 1").
Sophomore
Ancil Alexander claimed victory in the shot put with a New England Division III Automatic qualifying throw of 16.22 meters (53' 2.5"), while classmate
Mickey Valentino was second with a throw of 13.86 meters (45' 5.75") – also a New England DIII Provisional qualifying mark. Senior
Joseph Uwanogho finished fourth with a throw of 13.76 meters (45' 1.75") with rookie Chalais Saintil posting a mark of 13.75 meters (45' 1.25") – both were New England DIII Provisional qualifying marks.
Also finishing well was sophomore
Kevin Saenz, who was seventh with a throw of 13.10 meters (42' 11.75") with rookie
Dan McCarthy posting 10th overall with a mark of 12.70 meters (41' 8"). Rookie Michael Precious rounded out the efforts in the shot put with a mark of 9.00 meters (29' 6.25"),
Saintil went on to claim victory in the discus throw with a mark of 40.14 meters (131' 8") – which was a New England DIII Provisional qualifying mark, while Saenz posted second with a throw of 39.64 meters (130' 1"). McCarthy was third with a throw of 38.17 meters (125' 3") with Uwanogho taking fourth in 37.51 meters (123' 1").
The javelin throw saw rookie
Elijah Perez take third overall with a throw of 46.77 meters (153' 5"), while classmate
Malik Escoffery was eighth with a throw of 40.02 meters (131' 4").
The hammer throw saw rookie
Michael Gama claim victory, recording a collegiate-best throw of 53.13 meters (174' 4") for a New England DIII Automatic qualifying mark. Uwanogho was second with a throw of 51.39 meters (168' 7") – another NED3 Automatic mark, while Valentino was third overall with a throw of 44.71 meters (146' 8") – which was a NED3 Provisional qualifying mark.
The Corsairs return to action next weekend, traveling to Eastern Connecticut State University to compete at the 2026 Little East Championships. Action begins at 10am.
