CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - UMass Dartmouth junior captain
Cameron Thompson competed on Distance Night at the highly-competitive MIT Sean Collier Invitational on Friday night. It marked the first time since the meet's inception in 2014 that a Corsair had been invited to compete.
Thompson, who hails from Sherborn, Mass., ran in the 1500-meter run on Friday, posting a personal record time of 3:54.92. It was not only a New England Division III Automatic Qualifying mark, but the third best performance outdoors in the event in program history at UMass Dartmouth. His previous best time was 3:57.55, set at the Final Qualifier at MIT on May 15, 2025.
It has been a solid outdoor campaign for Thompson, who has finished top-13 in every event competed. He opened with a win in the 5,000-meters at the Corsair Classic with a time of 15:26.24. He then won the 3,000-meter Steeplechase with a collegiate-best time of 9:48.13, while also helping the 4x400-meter relay to fifth in 3:31.27.
Thompson, who became the first Corsairs since 2004 to represent the school at the 2026 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, posted 11th in the 1500-meters at the Tufts Stampede (3:59.68) before his outstanding effort at MIT.
Thompson and the men's squad return to action next weekend, traveling to Eastern Connecticut State University for the 2026 Little East Championships. Action begins at 10am.
