PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference has announced its major year-end award winners in men's outdoor track & field and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete
Ancil Alexander has been named the Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight season. It marks the third year-end honor for the sophomore, who was also the 2026 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
Alexander, who hails from Taunton, Mass., captured his second straight year-end honor following a solid effort at the Little East Conference Championships this past Saturday. The sophomore defended his title in the shot put with a season's-best throw of 16.73 meters (54' 10.75") and also posted his second consecutive conference title in the discus throw with a mark of 51.26 meters (168' 2").
It has been another incredible season for the four-time LEC Field Athlete of the Week, who has captured six victories in 2026 for the shot put. Additionally, Alexander he has recorded five wins in the discus throw.
This year, Alexander has had a number of outstanding performances. He opened the season with wins in both the shot put and the discus throw at the Wesleyan J. Elmer Swanson Invitational. He went on to win both events again at the Corsair Classic the next weekend, eclipsing his own school record in the discus throw with a mark of 54.90 meters (180' 1").
Alexander went on to earn victory in the shot put and discus throw at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on April 4, before claiming victory again in both the shot put and discus – along with placing eighth in the hammer throw with a collegiate-best mark of 47.88 meters (157' 1") at the Tufts Spring Stampede.
The sophomore – who is currently ranked second overall in NCAA Division III in the discus throw and 18th in the shot put – won the shot put with a throw of 16.22 meters (53' 2.75") at the Bridgewater State Bears Invitational, setting up his outstanding performance at the Little East Championships that also saw him place 12th in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.18 meters.
Alexander – who is a 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor First Team All-American in the discus throw and a 2026 Indoor Second Team All-American in the shot put – heads into the 2026 Division III New England Outdoor Championships this weekend ranked first overall in the East Region and the Little East in the discus throw. He captured the outdoor shot put and discus titles at the 2025 Division III New England Championships – becoming the first Corsair athlete to win the discus title in program history.
Qualified members of the Corsairs men's team – including Alexander – will be back in action on Friday at the 2026 DIII New England Outdoor Championships. Hosted at Springfield College, action will begin at 2:00pm.
