Corsairs see a school record fall and two top-15 performances at final meet before nationals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was an outstanding day of action for the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team as the squad saw 11 student-athletes competing at the MIT Final Qualifier. The day was highlighted by a Division III top-20 and personal best performance in the high jump, along with a new school record and national top-10 throw in the shot put.

Sophomore Ancil Alexander's incredible season continued on Thursday as he claimed victory in the shot put with a personal best and school record throw of 17.99 meters (59' 0.25"). His mark eclipsed the previous school record of 16.84 meters (55' 3") set by Jared Louf-Woods in 2018. Currently, Alexander's throw puts him solidly into the Top-10 in the nation heading into the national championships next week.

Also competing in the shot put was sophomore Mickey Valentino, who took eighth overall with a throw of 14.13 meters (46' 4.25").

Rookie Ewan McLeod also had an incredible day, earning victory in the high jump with a personal best mark of 2.07 meters (6' 9.5"). That height moves him solidly into the top 15 in Division III with selections for the National Championships being announced later this week.

Sophomore Sean Patrone posted fourth overall with a mark of 1.97 meters (6' 5.5"), while senior Vincenzo Videtta finished seventh with a height of 1.92 meters (6' 3.5").

In the hammer throw, rookie Michael Gama finished 10th overall with a throw of 50.28 meters (164' 11") as senior Joseph Uwanogho was right behind, taking 11th overall with a mark of 49.91 meters (163' 9").

The discus throw saw rookie Chalais Saintil post 11th overall with a throw of 37.98 meters (124' 7") to round out the field events.

On the track, junior Justin Andrade finished 14th in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 11.10, while the 200-meter dash saw sophomore Daniel Jordan place 12th overall with a time of 22.33. Rounding out the action was sophomore Zane Gordon, who was ninth in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 50.96.

The Corsairs will now wait for the selections to be revealed for the full field of participants for the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. Currently, both Alexander and McLeod are amongst the top 22 in the nation in their events with Alexander also sitting fourth in DIII in the discus throw.
