Men's Track & Field Finishes 2nd at New England DIII Championships

Two championship performances & countless Top-10's pace Corsairs to 2nd of 35 teams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Action at the New England Division III Championships concluded on Saturday and the UMass Dartmouth men's track & field team saw a number of outstanding performances to finish in a tie for second overall (35 teams). It marks the second time since 2023 that the Corsairs have earned runner-up – which is the highest team finish at the New England DIII Championship.
 
Pacing the way were Championship performances in the high jump and the discus throw, along with many Top-10 finishes on the day.
 
In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Zane Gordon posted 13th overall with a time of 50.58, while in the 800-meter run, junior Joseph Stanton finished 10th overall with a time of 1:55.61 – which marks a personal-best. Rookie Edward Yeboah posted 18th overall in the 800 with a mark of 1:58.98.
 
The 400-meter hurdles saw rookie Jayden Francois post sixth overall, earning valuable points with a time of 54.36 – marking a new personal-best for the freshman. In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Daniel Jordan posted seventh overall with a mark of 22.45.
 
Junior Cameron Thompson then ran to second overall in the d3,000-meter steeplechase, notching a personal-best mark of 9:26.82 – eclipsing his previous best of 9:48.13 in just his second collegiate running of the event.
 
The 4x800-meter relay of Yeboah, juniors Zack Shute, James Carriere and Joseph Stanton combined to earn eighth overall with a time of 8:07.01. Finally, the 4x400-meter relay of Jordan, Gordon, sophomore Bunmi Fabikun and rookie Carlens Elas posted ninth overall with a time of 3:24.26.
 
In the field events, sophomore Ancil Alexander posted second overall in the shot put, notching a mark of 16.63 meters (54' 7") on his last attempt to move into the runner-up position. Sophomore Mickey Valentino placed ninth in the event with a throw of 14.41 meters (47' 3"), while rookie Chalais Saintil was 22nd with a mark of 13.03 meters (42'9").
 
Senior Vincenzo Videtta went on to claim victory in the high jump, becoming the first Corsair in program history to win the title in the event. He posted a mark of 2.00 meters (6' 6.75") on his first attempt, edging teammate Sean Patrone, who also recorded a height of 2.00 meters (6' 6.75") on his second attempt for second overall. Rookie Ewan McLeod made it a clean sweep for the Corsairs, taking third with a height of 1.97 meters (6' 5.5").
 
In the discus throw, Alexander defended his title from 2025, recording a throw of 50.41 meters (165' 5") for the victory. Last season, Alexander became the first Corsair in program history to win the New England DIII title in the discus throw. Currently, Alexander remains second in the nation in Division III in the event.
 
Several members of the Corsairs' men's team will return to action next weekend at the Williams FIRE meet. Action begins on Friday at 4pm, continuing on Saturday with a 10am start.
