Medical Services

The Athletic Training Room is located on the bottom floor of the Tripp Athletic Center, adjacent to the main gym entrances. Hours vary seasonally and weekly due to changing game and practice schedules. The Athletic Training Room is generally open Monday through Friday from late mornings until evenings for treatment and rehabilitation and open weekends for athletic event coverage only. The Athletic Training Room will be open TWO HOURS prior to and thirty minutes following the conclusion of a scheduled home athletic contest and one hour before and thirty minutes after practices.

A Certified Athletic Trainer will cover all home games. The covering ATC will introduce themselves to the visiting team's ATC or Head Coach before the contest to confirm that they have been provided with all medical needs have been provided. Please contact us in advance if your team will be traveling without an ATC. Teams traveling without a certified athletic trainer are requested to bring a stocked medical kit for pre game taping.

Supplies: Teams that are visiting UMassD will have access to heat or ice before any games as well as provided an area for taping. In most instances other then football and ice hockey the taping area will be in the Athletic Training Room. Football and ice hockey will be shown a designated area at the time of arrival. The following supplies will be available for each sporting event: ice bags, water, water bottles or cups, AED, splints, crutches.

Coverage: A physician or physician assistant and an ambulance will cover all home football games. A physician or physician assistant will cover all home hockey games. An ambulance will cover all home cross country meets.

Treatments: We will provide basic taping and bracing for all traveling student athletes. Our staff greatly appreciates any reciprocal coverage. If reciprocal coverage is not available, please contact one of our staff members so that we may be available to treat our student athletes before they leave.

Directions from campus: Take a right from campus onto Old Westport Road. Follow to end of road. Turn left at stop sign continuing on Old Westport Road. Follow to set of lights. At lights turn right onto Route 6 East. Follow for 0.8 miles to Slocum Road (Bishop Stang High School). Turn right onto Slocum Road and follow for 1.1 miles. Turn left onto Allen St. Follow for 1.4 miles. Hospital will be on left.

At lights continue straight onto Faunce Corner Road for 1.0 miles. Merge onto Route 195 West. Drive 7.1 miles and merge onto Route 24 North. Follow for 2.6 miles. Take exit 5 (President Ave. Eastern Ave.). At rotary take second exit onto Eastern Ave (Route 6 East) for 0.2 miles. At first set of lights take right onto New Boston Road. Drive 1.1 miles and hospital will be on left.
