Box Score

DANBURY, CT – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's lacrosse team dropped their 2013 Little East Conference to host Western Connecticut State, 20-4, at the Western Athletic Complex Saturday.

Junior midfielder Taylor Corsano (Bourne, MA/Bourne) scored twice for the Corsairs, who got a goal from freshman attacker Colleen Kane (Arlington, MA/Arlington) with 20:03 remaining in the first half to cut an early Colonial lead to 3-1.

Western Connecticut scored the next seven goals to take a commanding 10-1 lead before Corsano scored her first goal of the game with 2:35 remaining in the first half.

Senior attacker Brittney Enos (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS) scored early in the second half for UMD to make it 13-3 and Corsano got her second of the game a few minutes later to cut the lead to 14-4, but the Corsairs could come no closer.

Devon Edwards, Brittany Paiva and Emma Theiler led the attack for WCSU with three goals each.

The Colonials outshot UMD, 43-11. Senior goalkeeper Angelina Donovan (Medford, MA/Medford) made 17 saves for the Corsairs, while Karli Portnoy and Alexa Lucchesi combined to make six stops for Western Connecticut.

"We struggled with 50/50 balls and draw controls today, which limited our opportunities," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Sarah Booker. "Western Connecticut is a strong team and they played well. It was a tough way to start out our conference campaign, but we will work at improving every day."

UMass Dartmouth dropped to 3-4 and 0-1 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while Western Connecticut improved to 3-3 and 1-0 in LEC action with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Salem State next Wednesday evening. The Colonials will host Manhattanville Tuesday.
