Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. – Sophomore Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, Mass.) poured in a career-high 33 points and pulled in 10 rebounds to post her first double-double of the season to lead the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to a 73-50 victory over Salve Regina University in a NCAA Division III women's basketball contest at the Rogers Recreation Center.
With the win, the Corsairs improve to 5-0 for the first time since Dec. 5, 1989 (as Southeastern Massachusetts University).
Ronaghan dominated the low blocks, converting 16 of her 20 field goal attempts, to account for 37 percent of the visitors' offensive output. Senior Erin Fahey (Salem, Mass.) scored a season-high 16 points, pulled in seven rebounds, and handed out five assists. Classmate Kelsey Garrity (Somerville, Mass.) also reached double digits in scoring with 10 points to go along with seven rebounds and six helpers.
UMass Dartmouth made Ronaghan an immediate priority in the first half and she responded with 21 points, on 10-for-13 from the field. The Corsairs closed the opening stanza with a 15-5 run to take a 33-22 advantage into the locker room. Ronaghan fueled the surge with 11 points, while Fahey chipped in with the remaining four.
The visitors would not let their advantage dip below double digits for the final 20 minutes of action. Ronaghan and Fahey knocked down back-to-back jumpers to balloon UMass Dartmouth's advantage to 20 points (65-45) with five minutes, 17 seconds remaining in regulation. The Corsairs scored the final four points to take their largest lead of the night.
The Corsairs shot 47.2 percent (34-for-72) from the field, while connecting on 3-for-4 from the charity stripe. UMass Dartmouth forced 25 turnovers, which led to 18 Corsair points.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, when the Corsairs host Bridgewater State University.
